Patricia Nagle has studied everything from medieval music to computer science. She started tinkering with websites in 1996. When not herding pixels, she writes fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and whatever else pops into her brain. One could say this is Laura Mixon's fault, since she got started writing professionally when she was Laura's roommate in the 1980's. It's contagious.
